The Major Arcana
There are twenty-two cards contained in the Major Arcana, all of them show images only, rather than the symbols contained in the Minor Arcana. The general consensus is that the Major Arcana exemplifies the journey of the soul towards its ultimate enlightenment, with the journey opening with the Fool and concluding with the World. All of the cards have meanings but they often contradict the images; Death for instance does not mean that someone will die, it often implies that change will come.
The suite of Pentacles
are an Earth Suite and connected to the Earth horoscope signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Those born under these signs tend to be sensible, calm people and conservative in their outlook
The Suite of Swords
are cards that no one wants to draw, none of them are particularly pleasant, though they are not necessarily negative. Swords are an Air Suite and connected to the Air horoscope signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, those born under these signs tend to be intellectual and logical, courageous and ambitious, but can they can often appear cold and domineering.
The Suite of Cups
relate the emotional aspects of our nature and are linked with creativity. Drawing a cups card suggests that you are naturally intuitive. Cups are a Water Suite and connected to the Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, those born under these signs tend to be emotional, expressive, romantic and profound.
The Suite of Wands
are associated with creativity, initiative and enterprise and primarily linked with business. Wands are a Fire Suite and connected to Fire horoscope signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, those born under these signs tend to be flamboyant, enthusiastic and charismatic, but they can often appear impatient, irresponsible and narcissistic.
The Minor Arcana
are comprised of four suites each containing fourteen cards. The suites are Cups, Swords, Pentacles and Wands, with each suite representing an element: Cups represent water, Swords represent Air, Pentacles represent Earth and Wands represent Fire. As well as elements each suite is connected to human aspects: Cups are associated with emotion, Swords with intellect, Pentacles with needs (mental and material) and Wands with energy and passion.
Court Cards
Court cards; Page, Knight, Queen and King are the personification of the elements and aspects of their respective suite. The King of Swords therefore, will reveal the characteristics associated with intellect and as He is a King we can also assume that he carries authority. This card represents power, charisma and authority.
